جمع كوثل وهو مؤخر السفينة: اسم موضع في أطراف الشام مرّ به خالد لما قصد الشام من العراق، وقال ابن السّكّيت في قول النابغة:
خلال المطايا يتّصلن وقد أتت ... قنان أبير دونها فالكواتل
الكواتل، بالتاء: من نواحي أرض ذبيان تلي أرض كلب.
