الغمض: النوم العارض. تقول ما ذقت غمضا ولا غماضا. وغمض عينه: وضع أحد جفنيه على الآخر، ثم يستعار للتغافل والتساهل. والغمض: المكان المطمئن. وغوامض المسائل: ما خفي منها. قال المطرز: والتركيب يدل على الخفاء والتطامن.
