بالفتح وسكون الواو عند الصرفيين أن يؤخذ مادة أصل ويتصرّف فيها بإحداث هيئة وزيادة معنى، فتبقى مادة الأصل ومعناه في الفرع، كما في صوغ الأواني والحليّ من الذهب. فالمصدر أصل للفعل كذا في أصول الأكبري.
