الشّاقول:
[في الانكليزية] Plumbline
[ في الفرنسية] Fil a plomb
هي قطعة من الخشب لدى الفلّاحين من أهل البصرة وفي رأسها قطعة حديد مطوية. وفي كتب أهل الهندسة: هو حجر معلّق بخيط يعرف بواسطته استواء سطح الأرض. كما في المنتخب. وفي شرح خلاصة الحساب يقول:
هو خيط يعلّق في أحد طرفيه شيء ثقيل كحجر أو غيره.

وشَقَلَها: جامَعَها،
وـ الدِّينارَ: وَزَنَهُ.
وشَوْقَلَ: تَرَزَّنَ حِلْماً. والشَّقاقُلُ: في: ش ش ق ل.
وأشْقالِيَةُ: د بالأنْدَلُسِ. ومَيْمونةُ بنتُ شاقولَةَ: من المُتَعَبِّداتِ.
