السِّتَّة: أَصْلهَا السُّدس بِكَسْر السِّين وَسُكُون الدَّال الْمُهْمَلَتَيْنِ بِدَلِيل تصغيره على سديس وَجمعه أَسْدَاس أبدلت الدَّال بِالتَّاءِ ثمَّ أدغمت التَّاء فِي التَّاء المبدلة عَن السِّين لقرب الْمخْرج.
