السلطان: هو المَلِكُ ومن له القُدرة والسلطة على المُلك مطلقاً وأصله التسلّطُ والحجةُ وفي الحديث: "لا يؤمَّنَّ الرجلَ في سلطانِه" أي في موضع يملكه أو يتسلط عليه بالتصرف كصاحب المجلس وإمام المسجد.
