الرَّثَعُ، محركةً: الشَّرَهُ، والحِرْصُ، والطَّمَعُ، وهو راثِعٌ ورَثِعٌ، ككتِفٍ، ج: رَثِعونَ، وهو أيضاً مَن يَرْضَى من العَطِيَّةِ بالطَّفِيف ويُخادِنُ أخْدانَ السَّوْءِ، وفيه دَناءَةٌ وإِسْفافٌ لمَداقِّ المَطامِعِ.
