الحثو: قبض التراب باليد ورميه، ولا يكون إلا بالقبض والرمي، ومنه خبر "احثوا في وجوه المداحين التراب" . وقال الفقهاء يكفيه أن يحثو ثلاث حثوات من الماء، أرادوا به ثلاث غرفات على التشبيه.
