الجلف: العربي الجافي مأخوذ من جلف الشاة أوالبعير كأن المعنى عربي بجلده لم يتزي بزي الحضر في رفقتهم ولين أخلاقهم، فإنه إذا تزيا بزيهم كأنه نزع جلده ولبس غيره وهو كقولهم: كلام بغباره أي لم يتغير عن جهته.
