الثقف: الحذق في إدراك الشيء وفعله، ومنه قولهم: رجل ثقيف أي حاذق في إدراك الشيء وفعله، وعنه استعير المثاقفة، ويقال ثقفت كذا أي ادركت ببصرك لحذق في النظر ثم تجوز فيه فاستعمل في الإدراك وإن لم يكن معه ثقافة نحو: {وَاقْتُلُوهُمْ حَيْثُ ثَقِفْتُمُوهُمْ} .
