في اللغة مصدر ارتثّ الجريح أي حمل من المعركة وبه رمق، وفي الشرع أن يرتفق الجريح بشيء من مرافق الحياة، أو يثبت له حكم من أحكام الأحياء، كالأكل والشرب والنوم وغيرها، كذا في شرح الوقاية في باب الشهيد.
