الأرين: محل الاعتدال في الأشياء، والأرين نقطة في الأرض يستوي معها ارتفاع القطب فلا يأخذ هناك الليل من النهار ولا عكسه ثم نقل عرفا إلى محل الاعتدال مطلقا.

بالضم ثم الكسر، وياء ساكنة، ونون:
خيف الأرين، في حديث أبي سفيان أنه قال: أقطعني خيف الأرين أملأه عجوة، والأرين: نبات يشبه الخطميّ ويجوز أن يكون جمع الإران، وهي الجنازة والنّشاط أيضا.
