الأرب: فرط الحاجة المقتضي للاحتيال في الدفع، فكل أرب حاجة ولا عكس. ثم استعمل تارة في الحاجة المفردة وأخرى في الاحتيال وإن لم تكن حاجة، وقولهم لا أرب لي في كذا أي لا حاجة لي فيه.
