الأدَب: قال السيد: "الأدَب عبارةٌ عن معرفة ما يحترز به عن جميع أنواع الخطأ". وقال في العناية: "الأدب اسم يقع على كل رياضة محمودة يتخرج بها الإنسان في فضيلة من الفضائل". قال أبو زيد: "ويجوز أن يعرف بأنه مَلَكَةٌ تعصم من قامت به عما يَشينه". وفي "فتح القدير": "الأدب الخصالُ الحميدة". وفي "القاموس": "الأدَب محرَّكةً الظَرْف وحسنُ التناول".
