أثن: الأُثْنةُ: منبِتُ الطَّلْحِ، وقيل: هي القِطْعةُ من الطَّلْح

والأَثْلِ. يقال: هبَطْنا أُثْنةً من طلحٍ ومن أَثْلٍ. ابن الأَعرابي: عِيصٌ

من سِدْرٍ، وأُثْنةٌ من طلحٍ، وسلِيلٌ من سَمُر. ويقال للشيء الأَصِيل:

أَثِينٌ.

(أَثَنَ) الْهَمْزَةُ وَالثَّاءُ وَالنُّونُ لَيْسَ بِأَصْلٍ، وَإِنَّمَا جَاءَتْ فِيهِ كَلِمَةٌ مِنَ الْإِبْدَالِ، يَقُولُونَ الْأُثُنُ لُغَةٌ فِي الْوُثُنِ. وَيَقُولُونَ الْأُثْنَةُ حَرَجَةُ الطَّلْحِ. وَقَدْ شَرَطْنَا فِي أَوَّلِ كِتَابِنَا هَذَا أَلَّا نَقِيسَ إِلَّا الْكَلَامَ الصَّحِيحَ.
