(أثن) - في قراءة ابن مَسعُود، رضي الله عنه: {إنْ يَدعُونَ مِنْ دُونِه إِلَّا أُثُناً} وهو جمع وثن، استَثْقلُوا الضَّمَّة على الواوِ، فجَعَلُوها هَمْزة، وقراءة سَعِيد بن المُسَيَّب وغيرِه: بِسُكُون الثَّاء للتَّخْفِيف، كما يجمع أَسَد على أُسُد وأُسْد.

(أَثَنَ) الْهَمْزَةُ وَالثَّاءُ وَالنُّونُ لَيْسَ بِأَصْلٍ، وَإِنَّمَا جَاءَتْ فِيهِ كَلِمَةٌ مِنَ الْإِبْدَالِ، يَقُولُونَ الْأُثُنُ لُغَةٌ فِي الْوُثُنِ. وَيَقُولُونَ الْأُثْنَةُ حَرَجَةُ الطَّلْحِ. وَقَدْ شَرَطْنَا فِي أَوَّلِ كِتَابِنَا هَذَا أَلَّا نَقِيسَ إِلَّا الْكَلَامَ الصَّحِيحَ.
