و ع ل: (الْوَعِلُ) بِكَسْرِ الْعَيْنِ الْأَرْوَى وَجَمْعُهُ (وُعُولٌ) وَ (أَوْعَالٌ) وَفِي الْحَدِيثِ: «تَظْهَرُ التُّحُوتُ عَلَى الْوُعُولِ» أَيْ يَغْلِبُ الضُّعَفَاءُ مِنَ النَّاسِ أَقْوِيَاءَهُمْ. وَ (الْوَعْلُ) بِسُكُونِ الْعَيْنِ الْمَلْجَأُ، قَالَهُ الْأَصْمَعِيُّ.

(وَعَلَ) الْوَاوُ وَالْعَيْنُ وَاللَّامُ كَلِمَتَانِ: إِحْدَاهُمَا الْوَعْلُ: ذَكَرُ الْأَرْوَى. [وَ] عَلَى التَّشْبِيهِ قِيلَ لِكِبَارِ النَّاسِ وُعُولٌ. وَفِي الْحَدِيثِ: «تَظْهَرُ التُّحُوتُ وَ [تَذْهَبُ] الْوُعُولُ» . التُحُوتُ: الدُّونُ. وَالْوُعُولُ: الْأَشْرَافُ.

وَالثَّانِيَةُ قَوْلُهُمْ: لَا وَعْلَ عَنْهُ، أَيْ لَا مَلْجَأَ.
