لحج

1 لَحِجَ aor. ـَ (inf. n. لَحَجٌ, S,) It (a sword, S, K, or other thing, S) stuck fast in the scabbard, (S, K,) and would not come forth; like لَصِبَ. (S.) b2: لَحِجَ الخَاتَمُ فِى الإِصْبَعِ The sealring stuck fast upon his finger. (A.) b3: لَحِجَ بَيْنَهُمُ الشَّرُّ Evil stuck fast between, or among, them. (TA.) b4: لَحِجَ بِمَكَانٍ He clave fast to a place; kept fast, or close, to it. (TA.) b5: لَحِجَ فِى الأَمْرِ He entered into an affair and became entangled in it so that he could not extricate himself. (TA.) b6: لَحَجَ إِلَيْهِ, aor. ـَ inf. n. لَحْجٌ; and ↓ التحج; He inclined to him, or it. (TA.) By the following words of Ru-beh, أَوْ تَلْحَجُ الأَلْسُنُ مِنَّا مَلْحَجَا is meant, Or tongues speak of us, and incline from what is good to that which is bad. (L.) [For منها, in the L, I have substituted منّا.

ملحج seems to be an inf. n.] b7: لَحَجَ إِلَيْهِ, [and ↓ التحج, Golius, from Ibn-Maaroof,] He had recourse to him or it for protection or concealment. (K.) b8: لَحِجَ It (a thing) became strait, narrow, or confined. (TA.) 2 لحّج عَلَيْهِ الخَبَرَ, inf. n. تَلْحِيجٌ; and عَلَيْهِ ↓ لَحْوَجَهُ, inf. n. لَحْوَجَةٌ; He rendered the news, or information, confused to him, and told him something different from that which was in his mind: (S, K:) or the phrase with the former verb signifies he told him news, or a piece of information, different * from that which was in his mind; and that with the latter verb, he rendered the news, or information, confused to him. (Az.) See 5.4 الحجهُ إِلَيْهِ, He caused him to incline to him, or it. (TA.) b2: الحجهُ إِلَيْهِ, (K,) and ↓ التحجهُ, (S, K,) He constrained, compelled, or necessitated, him to have recourse to, or to do, it, (S, K.) 5 تلحّج عَلَيْهِ الأَمْرَ, and عليه ↓ لَحْوَجَهُ, He represented the affair to him not as it was in his mind. (L.) See 2.8 إِلْتَحَجَ see 1 and 4.10 إِسْتَلْحَجَ استلحج البَابَ [app. He found the door stuck fast]: (A:) [but I think it not improbable that the right reading is البَابُ; and the meaning, the door stuck fast]. Q. Q. 1 لَحْوَجَ: see 2 and 5.

لُحْجٌ: see لُجْحٌ.

لَحِجٌ A strait, narrow, or confined, place. (S, K.) مَلْحَجٌ (K) and ↓ مُلْتَحَجٌ (As, S, K) A place to which one has recourse for protection or concealment; a place of refuge; an asylum. (As, S, K.) b2: مَلَاحِجُ Strait, narrow, or confined, places. (S, K.) b3: مَلَاحِيجُ Narrow roads in mountains. (TA.) خُطَّةٌ مَلْحُوجَةٌ A confused and crooked business. (L.) قُفْلٌ مُلَحَّجٌ A lock that is not [or, app., that cannot be] opened. (A.) مُلْتَحَجٌ see مَلْحَجٌ.
