: (الشَّنْبَثُ) كجَعفرِ، أَهمله الجوهريّ، وأَورده الصّاغانيّ وصاحبُ اللّسَان فِي شبث وَقَالا: هُوَ (الأَسَدُ، كالشُّنَابِثِ بالضّمّ، وَهُوَ) صَوَابه: وهُما أَيضاً (: الغَلِيظُ) الشّديد.
(وشَنْبَثَ الهَوَى قَلْبَه: عَلِقَ بِه) كَشَبِثَه.
