التشعيث: حذف حرف متحرك من وتد: فاعلاتن، ووتده: علا؛ إما اللام، كما هو مذهب الخليل، فيبقى: فاعاتن، فينقل إلى: مفعولن، أو العين، كما هو مذهب الأخفش، فيبقى: فالاتن، فينقل إلى: مفعولن، ويسمى: مشعثًا.
