سخبر



سَخْبَرٌ A certain kind of trees, (S, K,) the heads of which, when it grows tall, bend and hang down; [a coll. gen. n.;] n. un. with ة: (TA:) it resembles the إِذْخِر; (K;) or it is like the ثُمَام [or panic grass], and has a [root such as is termed]

جُرْثُومَة; its branches, or twigs, are, in abundance, like the كراث [app. كَرَاث, a certain large tree, growing on the mountains]; and its fruits resemble brooms of reeds, or are more slender: (AHn:) serpents make their abodes at its roots. (TA.) It is related in a trad. of Ibn-Ez-Zubeyr, that he said to Mo'áwiyeh, لَا تُطْرِقْ إِطْرَاقَ الأُفْعُوَانِ فِى أُصُولِ الــسَّخْبَرِ [Do not thou look down upon the ground like as does the male viper at the roots of the sakhbar]; meaning (assumed tropical:) do not thou affect heedlessness of the state in which we are, or of the affair in which we are engaged. (TA.) One says also, رَكِبَ فُلَانٌ الــسَّخْبَرَ, meaning, (assumed tropical:) Such a one acted perfidiously, treacherously, or unfaithfully. (S.) And a poet says, وَالغَدْرُ يَنْبُتُ فِى أُصُولِ الــسَّخْبَرِ (assumed tropical:) [And perfidy grows at the roots of the sakhbar]: (S:) [because the viper lives there: or] the poet means, that the people of whom he speaks dwelt in places where the sakhbar grew; and they are thought to have been of the tribe of Hudheyl: IB says that he likens the perfidious to this tree because, when it is full-grown, its head hangs down, not remaining erect; and that he means, ye do not remain faithful, like as this tree does not remain in one state. 1 عَذَقَ الشَّاةَ, (S, O, K,) aor. ـُ inf. n. عَذْقٌ, (S, O,) He appended to the sheep, or goat, a sign whereby the latter might be known, termed ↓ عَذْقَةٌ (S, O, K) and ↓ عِذْقَةٌ, (K,) being a flock of wool, (S, O,) differing in colour from the animal: (S, O, K:) some particularize the animal to which this is done as being a goat: (TA:) and ↓ اعذقها signifies the same. (S, K.) b2: Hence the saying, مَنْ عُذِقَتْ بِهِ الأَعْمَالُ أُعْلِقَتْ بِهِ الآمَالُ (assumed tropical:) [The person to whom offices of administration are assigned, to him hopes are made to cling]. (Har p. 489.) b3: Hence also, (O, TA,) عَذَقَ الرَّجُلَ, (S, O,) or عَذَقَهُ بِشَرٍّ or بِقَبِيحٍ, (K,) (tropical:) He reproached him, or upbraided him, with a thing that was bad, evil, abominable, or foul, (S, O, K, TA,) and stigmatized him with it, (S, O, TA,) so that he became known thereby. (TA.) b4: And عَذَقَهُ إِلَى كَذَا i. e. نَسَبَهُ إِلَيْهِ [commonly meaning نَسَبَ إِلَيْهِ كَذَا (assumed tropical:) He attributed, or imputed, to him such a thing]. (Ibn-'Abbád, O, K.) A2: عَذَقْتُ النَّخْلَةَ I cut off the branches of the palm-tree: (S, O:) and [in like manner one says] ↓ عَذَّقْتُ, with teshdeed to denote muchness [of the action] or multiplicity [of the objects]. (S.) A3: عَذَقَ said of the [species of sweet rush called] إِذْخِر, It put forth its fruit; as also ↓ أَعْذَقَ: (S, O, K:) or the latter, accord. to IAth, it had عُذُوق [pl. of عِذْقٌ] and شُعَب [pl. of شُعْبَةٌ, i. e. bunches, or sprigs]: or, as some say, it blossomed. (TA.) And, said of the [species of tree, or plant, called] سَخْبَر, It grew tall. (IAar, O, TA.) A4: عَذَقَ الفَحْلُ عَنِ الإِبِلِ, (O, K,) aor. ـِ (K,) inf. n. عَذْقٌ, (TA,) The stallion [camel] repelled from the [she-] camels, and drew them together. (O, K.) A5: And عَذَقَ البَعِيرُ The camel voided his dung in a thin state. (Ibn-'Abbád, O, K.) 2 عَذَّقَ see the preceding paragraph.4 اعذق: see 1, first sentence.

A2: Also He (a man) had many عُذُوق, i. e. palm-trees, pl. of عَذْقٌ. (O.) b2: And اعذقت النَّخْلَةُ The palm-tree had many أَعْذَاق, i. e. racemes, or bunches of dates, pl. of عِذْقٌ. (O.) b3: See also 1, latter half.8 اعتذق بَكْرَةً مِنْ إِبِلِهِ He made a mark, or sign, upon a young female of his camels, for his riding her before she had been trained: (O, K: * [the K has لِيَقْبِضَهَا in the place of لِيَقْتَضِبَهَا, which latter is the reading in the O, and is evidently the right:]) the mark, or sign, is termed ↓ عَذْقَةٌ, as mentioned by Az. (TA.) b2: And اعتذقهُ بِكَذَا means اِخْتَصَّهُ بِهِ [i. e. He distinguished him particularly, peculiarly, or specially, by such a thing; or he particularized him, or particularly or peculiarly or specially characterized him, thereby]; (O, K;) namely, a man. (K.) b3: And اعتذق He made [the] two ends of his turban to hang down behind; (IAar, O, K;) like اعتذب. (TA.) عَذْقٌ A palm-tree with its fruit: (S, O, K:) so called by the people of El-Hijáz: (TA:) or [simply] a palm-tree: (Mgh, Msb:) pl. [of pauc.] أَعْذُقٌ and [of mult.] عِذَاقٌ (K, TA) [the latter erroneously written in the CK عِذْقٌ] and عُذُوقٌ. (O: in which no other is mentioned.) [The dim. is ↓ عُذَيْقٌ:] hence the saying, أَنَا عُذَيْقُهَا المُرَجَّبُ [expl. in art. رجب]. (S, O.) b2: And Certain dates of El-Medeeneh. (CK.) It it is applied to several sorts of dates; of which are those called عَذْقُ ابْنِ الحُبَيْقِ, (Msb,) or عَذْقُ حُبَيْقٍ, (Mgh,) and عَذْقُ ابْنِ طَابٍ and عَذْقُ ابْنِ زَيْدٍ [mentioned in art. طوب]: so says AHát: (Msb:) or عَذْقُ ابْنِ طَابٍ is the name of a sort of palm-trees in El-Medeeneh. (K in art. طوب.) عِذْقٌ A raceme of a palm-tree, or of dates; (S, Mgh, O, Msb, K, TA;) i. e. the base thereof, (TA,) together with the fruit-stalks [and fruit]; (Msb, TA;) when ripe: (TA:) pl. أَعْذَاقٌ (O, Msb, K) and عُذُوقٌ. (K.) b2: Hence, (TA,) (tropical:) Might; or high, or elevated, rank or condition; syn. عِزٌّ. (O, K, TA.) So in the saying, فِى

بَنِى فُلَانٍ كَهْلٌ (tropical:) In the sons of such a one is might, &c., that has attained its utmost point; and so عذق يَانِعٌ. (O, TA.) b3: Also A bunch of grapes: (Lth, O, K:) or when what was upon it has been eaten. (Ibn-'Abbád, O, K.) b4: and A branching portion of a plant: (Lth, O:) and any branch having branchlets. (Lth, O, K.) عَذِقٌ, applied to a man, i. q. لَبِقٌ: (O, K:) so in the phrase عَذِقٌ بِالقُلُوبِ [app. meaning Congenial with hearts]. (O, TA.) b2: Applied to perfume, Fragrant. (O, K.) b3: نَعْجَةٌ عَذِقَةٌ A ewe having goodly wool: one should not say عَنْزٌ عَذِقَةٌ. (Ibn-'Abbád, O.) عَذْقَةٌ and عِذْقَةٌ: see 1, first sentence: and for the former, see also 8.

عَذَقَةٌ The fruit of the [species of tree, or plant, called] سَخْبَر. (IAar, O.) عُذَيْقٌ dim. of عَذْقٌ, q. v.

عَاذِقٌ One who undertakes the affairs of palmtrees, the fecundating of them, and the adjusting of their racemes of fruit, and disposing them properly for the cutting off. (TA.) هُوَ مَعْذُوقٌ بِالشَّرِّ (tropical:) He is stigmatized with evil. (TA.)

عزر

1 عَزَرَهُ, aor. ـِ inf. n. عَزْرٌ, He prevented, hindered, withheld, or forbade, him; (Mgh, * O, K, * TA;) and turned him away, or back; (Mgh, * O, TA;) عَنِ الشَّىْءِ from the thing: this is the primary signification, from which others, mentioned in the next paragraph, are derived. (TA.) See 2, in eight places. b2: And عَزَرْتُ البَعِيرَ. inf. n. عَزْرٌ, I tied a cord upon the خَيَاشِيم [app. meaning the upper parts of the nostrils] of the camel, and then put medicine into his mouth. (O, TA.) b3: And عَزَرَ المَرُأَةَ, (TA,) inf. n. as above, (K,) He compressed the woman. (K, * TA.) 2 عزّرهُ, (O, TA,) inf. n. تَعْزِيرٌ, (S, O, K, TA,) He disciplined, chastised, corrected, or punished, him; (S, O, TA;) meaning he did to him that which should turn him away, or back, from evil, or foul, conduct. (Ibráheem Es-Seree, O, * TA.) b2: And hence, (S,) He inflicted upon him a beating, or flogging, less than that prescribed by the law; (S, M, Mgh, * O, Msb, * K;) as also ↓ عَزَرَهُ, inf. n. عَزْرٌ: (TA: but only the inf. n. of the latter verb in this sense is there mentioned:) because it prevents the criminal from returning to disobedience: but whether this meaning belong only to the conventional language of the law or be implied in the proper signification, is disputed: (TA:) or he beat, or flogged, him with the utmost vehemence: (M, K:) or تَعْزِيرٌ signifies [simply] the act of beating. (A.) And one says, ضَرَبَهُ تَعْزِيرًا, meaning He beat him moderately; not exceeding the ordinary bounds. (TA in art. حل.) b3: Also He constrained him against his will, عَلَى

الأَمْرِ to do the thing, (O, K, *) and taught him by forbidding him to return to the doing of that which was at variance therewith; and so ↓ عَزَرَهُ: (IAar, O:) and he taught him the فَرَائِض and أَحْكَام [or obligatory statutes or ordinances of God]; (O;) or التَّعْزِيرُ, (Az, L,) or ↓ العَزْرُ, (K,) signifies the teaching [one] (Az, L, K) religion, (Az, L,) or بَاب الدِّين [i. e. the declaration of belief in the unity of God and in the mission of Mohammad] and the فَرَائِض and أَحْكَام. (L, K.) b4: And He blamed, censured, or reproved, him; as also ↓ عَزَرَهُ, aor. ـِ inf. n. عَزْرٌ. عوف

1 عَافَتِ الطَّيْرُ, (Sh, O, K,) aor. ـُ inf. n. عَوْفٌ, (Sh, O,) The birds circled over a thing, (Sh, O, K,) or over the water, or over carcasses or corpses: or circled over a thing, going to and fro and not going away, desiring to alight: (K:) AA says that the medial radical is و; others say that it is ى, as will be shown in art. عيف. (TA.) A2: And عَافَ He (a man, TA) kept, or clave, to the trees, or plants, called عَوْف. (O, K, * TA.) 5 تعوّف He (a lion) sought, or sought for or after, the prey, by night. (TA.) [It is used as intrans. and as trans.:] see عَوْفٌ and عُوَافَةٌ.

عَافٌ i. q. سَهْلٌ [A soft tract, or a plain, &c.]. (O, K.) عَوْفٌ A state, condition, or case. (S, O, K.) So in the saying, نَعِمَ عَوْفُكَ [May thy state, &c., be good, or pleasant]. (S, O.) One says also, أَصْبَحَ فُلَانٌ بِعَوْفِ سَوْءٍ, and بِعَوْفِ خَيْرٍ, meaning [Such a one entered upon the morning, or, simply, became,] in an evil state, and in a good state: or, accord. to some of the lexicologists, one should not say بِعَوْفِ خَيْرٍ, but only شَرٍّ [or سَوْءٍ]. (IDrd, O.) b2: Also Fortune; syn. جَدٌّ and حَظٌّ. (O, K.) And so, accord. to some, in the saying, نَعِمَ عَوْفُكَ [i. e. May thy fortune be good]. (O, TA.) b3: And i. q. طَائِرٌ [as meaning An omen]. (K, TA.) And thus it is said to signify in the form of prayer above mentioned: (TA:) [for,] as some say, the meaning is, نَعِمَ طَيْرُكَ [May thy omen be good]. (O, TA.) b4: And The ذَكَر. (O, K.) One says to a man on the morning after his first going in to his wife, نَعِمَ عَوْفُكَ, meaning thereby the ذَكَر [i. e. May thy ذكر be in a good state]. (O, TA.) A'Obeyd says, Some men used to explain (يَتَأَوَّلُ [for which يَتَنَاوَلُ is erroneously put in the O]) العَوْف as the فَرْج [meaning the ذَكَر], and I mentioned it to AA, and he disapproved it: (S, O, TA:) but a verse has been cited in which عَوْفِى [certainly] means ذَكَرِى. (TA.) b5: and A guest. (Lth, O, K.) And thus it has been expl. as used in the saying, نَعِمَ عَوْفُكَ. (O, * TA.) b6: And The cock. (O, K.) b7: And The lion: because he seeks his prey (↓ يَتَعَوَّفُ) by night. (O, K.) b8: And The wolf. (O, K.) b9: And One who toils, or seeks the means of subsistence, for his household, or family. The جَرَادَة, (S, O,) [i. e.] the female of the جَرَاد [or locust]. (K.) And أَبُو عَوْفٍ The جَرَاد [meaning the male locust]. (Az, O, K.) A2: Also (i. e. عَوْفٌ) a good manner of tending or pasturing [cattle]: (O, K:) [or rather, simply,] the tending or pasturing [cattle]: so in the saying, إِنَّهُ لَحَسَنُ العَوْفِ فِى إِبِلِهِ [Verily he is one who has a good quality of tending, or pasturing, in respect of his camels]. (TA.) عُوَافٌ: see عُوَافَةٌ.

أُمُّ عُوَيْفٍ A small creeping thing (دُوَيَّبَةٌ), other than the جَرَادَة [which is termed أُمُّ عَوْفٍ]. (TA.) b2: And, accord. to AHát, أَبُو عَوْفٍ A species of the [beetles called] جِعْلَان [pl. of جُعَلٌ]: it is a small creeping thing (دُوَيْبَّة), dust-coloured, that excavates with its tail and with its two horns, and [then] never appears. (TA.) عُوَافَةٌ (O, K) and ↓ عُوَافٌ (K) The prey which the lion seeks (الأَسَدُ ↓ مَا يَتَعَوَّفُهُ) by night, and which he devours. (O, K.) b2: And (both words, K) A thing that becomes, or has become, an acquisition of any one (O, K, TA) by night. (TA.)

4 أَنَصَفَهُ He did justice to him: (MA:) he acted equitably with him: (Msb:) he gave him, or obtained for him, his right, or due, from (مِنْ) another: see أَعْذَرَ. b2: إِنْصاَفٌ The giving what is right, or due: (M:) or the granting, or rendering, justice. (KL, PS.) b3: أَنْصَفَهُ مِنْ ظَالِمِهِ [He exacted justice for him from his wronger]. (T voce ظَلَّمَ.) 8 اِنْتَصَفَ مِنْهُ He exacted, or obtained, his right, or due, from him (M, K) completely, so that each of them became on a par with the other; (K;) [i. e. with equity]. b2: اِنْتَصَفَ It became halved: (Msb:) [often said of the daytime (النَّهَارُ)].

طُبِخَ عَلَى النِّصْفِ

, and أُصْلِحَ على النصف, It (wine) was boiled until half of it had gone, or evaporated. (TA, voce طَابَة.) مَكَانٌ نَصَفٌ بَيْنَ مَكَانَيْنِ [A place half-way, midway, or equidistant, between two places]. (Mughnee in art. سَوَآءٌ.) b2: نَصَفٌ A middle-aged woman or man: (S, K:) or forty-five years old: or fifty years old. (K.) Dim. نُصيف.

نُصَيْفٌ

مُنَصَّفٌ Expressed juice, (Mgh, Msb,) or wine, or beverage, (K,) cooked until half of it has gone [by evaporation]. (Mgh, Msb, K.) مَنَاصَفٌ Not wholly ripe: [half-ripe:] applied to the date. (TA, voce بُسْرٌ.) أَنْصاَفُ اللَّبِنِ [Half-bricks, or] cut bricks, whereof the one is placed, in building, beside the whole brick, for the purpose of ornamentation. (Msb in art. خرج.)

سحم

1 سَحِمَ, aor. ـَ inf. n. سَحَمٌ; and سَحُمَ; He, or it, was, or became, black. (Msb.) 2 سَحَّمُوا وَجْهَهُ They blackened his face; syn. حَيَّيُوهُ; as also سَخَّمُوهُ. (A, TA.) 4 اسحمت السَّمَآءُ The sky poured forth its water: (K:) mentioned as on the authority of IAar: but it has been mentioned before, on his authority, as with ج. (TA.) سَحَمٌ: see سُحْمَةٌ.

A2: A sort of tree; (S, K;) like ↓ سَحْمَآءُ: (S:) the latter also signifies a sort of tree: (K:) the former is said by ISk to be a certain plant: and by AHn, to be a plant that grows like the نَصِىّ and صِلِّيَان and عَنْكَث, except that it is taller; the سَحَمَة [i. e. the single plant of this species] being sometimes as tall as a man, and larger. (TA.) A3: Also Iron: (IAar, K:) n. un. with ة; meaning a lump, or piece, of iron. (IAar, TA.) سُحُمٌ [a pl. of which the sing. is not mentioned,] The blacksmith's hammers. (IAar, K.) سُحْمَةٌ Blackness; (S, Msb, K;) as also ↓ سَحَمٌ, [mentioned above as inf. n. of سَحِمَ,] and ↓ سُحَامٌ; (K;) like [سُخْمَةٌ and] سَخَمٌ: (TA in art. سخم:) a blackness like the colour of the crow to which the epithet ↓ أَسْحَمُ is applied. أَسْحَمُ Black; (S, Msb, K;) like أَسْخَمُ; (TA in art. سخم;) applied to the crow; see سُحْمَةٌ: (Lth, TA:) fem. سَحْمَآءُ; (Msb, TA;) applied to a plant of that colour; (ISk, TA;) and particularly to the نَصِىّ when it is of that colour, and thus applied as an intensive epithet; and to a woman in the same sense: (TA:) and ↓ إِسْحِمَانٌ signifies anything black (ISd, K) accord. to some; but this is a mistake, for it is only أَسْحَمُ. (ISd, TA.) b2: [Hence,] الأَسْحَمُ is the name of A certain idol, (K, TA,) which was black. (TA.) b3: and The night. (TA.) b4: [Hence likewise,] أَسْحَمُ signifies also Clouds (سَحَابٌ): (S, K:) or, as some say, black clouds: and سَحْمَآءُ signifies a black cloud. (TA.) b5: Also Blood into which are dipped the hands of persons swearing, one to another; (K;) or blood into which the hand is dipped on the occasion of swearing with another or others: said to have this meaning in the saying of El-Aashà, رَضِيعَىْ لِبَانِ ثَدْىِ أُمٍّ تَحَالَفَا بِأَسْحَمَ دَاجٍ عَوْضُ لَا تَتَفَرَّقُ [Two foster-brothers by the sucking of the breast of one mother swore together, by dark blood into which they dipped their hands, that you, or they, i. e. a tribe (قَبِيلَة) or a company of men (جَمَاعَة), for, without the context, the meaning is doubtful, should not ever become separated]: or it has here one, or another, of three meanings here following. (S.) b6: The womb. (S.) b7: The nipple of a woman's breast: (K:) or the blackness of the nipple of a woman's breast. [so in the TA, app. a mistranscription for تَذُبُّ,] i. e., [reading تَذُبُّ, She repels] with a pair of horns; using the fem, as meaning بِصِيصيَتَيْنِ; as though he said بِصِيصِيتَيْنِ سَحْمَاوَيْنِ [with two black horns]. 1 وَضَعَهُ He put it, or laid it, (KL, * PS,) in, or on, a place: (PS:) he put it, or threw it, down from his hand: (TA:) contr. of رَفَعَه: (Mgh:) syn. حَطَّهُ: (K, * TA, in art. حط:) but it has a more general sense than this last. فهر

1 فَهَرَ, aor. , (Msb, K,) inf. n. فَهْرٌ (S, O, Msb, K) and فَهَرٌ; (S, O, K;) and ↓ افهر, (IAar, O, * K,) inf. n. إِفْهَارٌ; (TA;) He compressed a woman, (IAar, S, O, Msb, K,) one of his young women, (IAar,) without consummating the act, i. e. without إِنْزَال, (IAar, S, O, Msb,) and then removed to another and consummated the act (IAar, S, O, Msb, K) with the latter, (IAar, O, Msb,) who was with him in the house, or chamber; (IAar;) the doing of which is forbidden (S, O, Msb) by the Prophet: (O:) and ↓ the latter verb signifies also He was alone with one of his young women, (K, TA,) لِقَضَآءِ حَاجَتِهِ, (TA,) when another of them heard the sound proceeding from him, which [sound] is termed الوَجْسُ, (K, TA,) and الرِّكْزُ, and الحَفْحَفَةُ; (TA;) which [also] is forbidden. (K, TA.) 2 فهّر, inf. n. تَفْهِيرٌ, He compressed without consummating the act, i. e. without إِنْزَال, by reason of weariness and languor. (Msb in art. عزل. Said of a horse, as also ↓ فَيْهَرَ and ↓ تَفَيْهَرَ, He was, or became, out of breath by reason of fatigue or running; (K, TA;) and interrupted, or stopped short, in running; and jaded: (TA:) or he fell back by degrees from running, by reason of weakness, and being interrupted, or stopped short, in running: (K, TA:) or the first deficiency of the rate of running of the horse is termed التَّرَادُّ [the falling back by degrees]; the next, الفُتُورُ [the becoming languid]; and the next, التَّفْهِيرُ. A2: افهر بَعِيرُهُ His camel became jaded, and broke down with him, or perished, so that he was unable to prosecute his journey. (IDrd, O, K.) A3: And افهر (said of a man, TA) His flesh became compacted and lumpy (O, K *) and wrinkled by reason of fatness: (O:) when such is the case, it is the ugliest sort of fatness. (O, K.) A4: Also He was present at the festival of the Jews, (IDrd, O, K, TA,) called الفُهْر: (TA:) or he came to their synagogue: (K, TA:) or it signifies also he was present in their synagogue. (IDrd, O.) A5: And أُفْهِرَتْ, said of a girl, She was circumcised. (Ibn-'Abbád, O, K.) 5 تفهّر فِى المَالِ He became, or made himself, ample, or abundant, in wealth, or in camels, or the like; (S, O, K;) as also ↓ تَفَيْهَرَ; (K;) as though the former verb were formed by substitution from تَبَحَّرَ: or it may mean he was, or became, weary, fatigued, or jaded, and languid, or remiss. الفُهْرُ, (Msb, K,) or فُهْرُ اليَهُودِ, (S, Mgh, O,) The synagogue of the Jews, (S, Mgh, O, Msb, K,) in which they assemble (O, Msb, K) for prayer (Msb) on the occasion of their festival: (K:) or a certain day on which they eat and drink: (K:) or it signifies also a certain festival of the Jews: (O:) [app. the feast of Purim (written in the Book of Esther פּוּרִים pl. of פּוּר)]: accord. to A 'Obeyd, (O, Msb,) a Hebrew word, (S, O, Msb,) or Nabathæan; (Msb;) arabicized; (S, Msb;) originally بُهْر; (S, O, Msb;) and the Christians say فُخْر. (TA.) فِهْرٌ, (S, O, K,) masc. and fem.; (Fr, S, O, K;) or, accord. to Lth, the Arabs in general made it fem.; but it occurs in the K as masc.; (TA;) A stone such as fills the hand: (S, O, K:) or a stone of the size of that with which one crushes walnuts (K, TA) and the like: (TA:) or a round stone with which one bruises, or brays, perfume: (Ham p. 643:) or a stone, absolutely: (TA:) pl. [of pauc.] أَفْهَارٌ (S, O, K) and [of mult.] فُهُورٌ: (O, K:) As used to say فِهْرٌ and ↓ فِهْرَةٌ, (S, O,) [indicating the former to be a coll. gen. n. and the latter to be the n. un.,] like سِدْرٌ and سِدْرَةٌ: (O:) the dim. is ↓ فُهَيْرَةٌ. فَهِيرَةٌ Pure, unmixed, milk, into which heated stones are put; and when it boils, flour is sprinkled upon it, and it is mixed, and stirred about, and beaten, therewith; and is then eaten: (ISk, S, O, K:) it has also been mentioned as with ق. (TA.) فُهَيْرَةٌ [dim. of فِهْرٌ and of فِهْرَةٌ]: see فِهْرٌ.

نَاقَةٌ فِيْهَرَةٌ and فَيْهَرٌ, (O, K,) the former mentioned by IDrd, and the latter by Ibn-'Abbád, A she-camel that is hard and strong, (O,) or hard and large. (K.) أَرْضٌ مَفْهَرَةٌ Land having in it [stones such as are termed] أَفْهَار [pl. of فِهْرٌ]. (O, TA.) مَفَاهِرُكَ, (K, TA,) thus we find it, with fet-h, but in some copies of the K with damm, (TA,) The flesh of thy breast. (K, TA.) IF says that there is not in the original language [of the Arabs] more than one word having in it the letters ف and ه and ر, and that is الفِهْرُ. (O.)

2 ليّث He became related to the Benoo-Leyth. (A.) [See also 5.]3 لَايَثَةُ He did, acted, or dealt, with him in the manner of the lion: or he contended with him for the glory of resembling the lion. لَيْثٌ Strength: [like لَوْثٌ]. (TA.) b2: اللَّيْثُ (S, K) and ↓ اللَّائِثُ (K) The lion: (S, K:) said to be from لَيْثٌ as signifying “ strength ”: accord. to Kr, from لَوْثٌ, as signifying the same: ISd says, that, if so, the ى is changed from و; but that this is not a valid opinion: yet Suh and several others agree with Kr: pl. لُيُوثٌ, and, as some say, مَلْيَثَةٌ, like مَشْيَخَةٌ and مَسْيَفَةٌ: (TA:) fem. لَيْثَةٌ; pl. لَيْثَاتٌ. (Msb.) b3: لَيْثُ عِفِرِّينَ The lion: (AA, S:) or an animal like the chameleon, that opposes itself to the rider; so called in reference to عفرّين, the name of a town or district. (As, S.) One says إِنَّهُ لَأَشْجَعُ مِنْ لَيْثِ عِفِرِّينَ [Verily he is more courageous than the lion, &c.] (S.) (TA.) b6: اللَّيْثُ also A certain kind of spider, (S, K,) that hunts flies by leaping, or springing: (S:) a certain kind of spider [surpassed, or equalled, by] no beast, or creeping thing, in acuteness, and circumvention, and in leaping, or springing, with correct aim, and in rapidity of snatching, and in dissimulation; that catches flies: ('Amr Ibn-Bahr:) or the spider, العَنْكَبُوت: (Lth:) or [a reptile] smaller than the عنكبوت, that catches flies. (TA.) A2: لَيْثٌ A land's having dry herbage, and being rained upon, and producing fresh herbage, so that half of it is green, and half of it yellow. (TA.) لِيثٌ, signifying A certain plant that winds about, belongs to art. لوث, q. v. (TA.) لَيْثَةٌ A strong she-camel. (K.) See لَوثَةٌ.

لَيْثِىٌّ [Of, or belonging to, or resembling, a lion. (K.) لَيَاثَةٌ: see لُيُوثَةٌ.

لُيُوثَةٌ and ↓ لَيَاثَةٌ [Lion-like courage]. (TA.) لَيِّثٌ and لَيِّثَةٌ: see art. لوث.

أَلْيَثُ Courageous: pl. لِيثٌ: (IAar, K:) as also ↓ لَيْثٌ. (TA.) b2: أَلْيَثُ Stronger, and more hardy: or strongest, and most hardy. (TA, from a trad.) اللَّائِثُ: see لَيْثٌ.

مِلْيَثٌ [accord. to the K and TA; but in the L, ↓ مليّث;] Strong; powerful: (K:) or very hard; syn. شَدِيدُ العارضة. (L.) مُلَيَّثٌ: see مِلْيَثٌ. b2: (tropical:) A strong stallion; likened to a lion. (A.) b3: مُلَيَّبٌ Fat, and broken, or trained, to obedience; syn. سَمِينٌ مُذَلَّلٌ. (TS, K.) هٰذِهِ الأُمُورُ خِسَاسٌ بَيْنَهُمْ These things, or affairs, are done by them by turns. (JF, K.) خَسِيسٌ, applied to a man, and to a lot or portion or share, (S, A, K,) or a thing, (Msb, TA,) Low or ignoble, base, vile, mean or sordid, weak; (S, A, K;) [or, more commonly,] contemptible; (A, Msb, K;) as also ↓ مُسْتَخِسٌّ and ↓ مُسْتَخَسٌّ; (K;) and, applied to a thing, also, paltry, or inconsiderable; and so ↓ خُسَاسٌ and ↓ مَخْسُوسٌ; bad, corrupt, abominable, or disapproved: (TA:) fem. with ة: (Mgh, Msb:) pl. masc. أَخِسَّآءُ and خِسَاسٌ (Msb, TA) and أَخِسَّةٌ; (A;) pl. fem.

خَسَائِسُ. (Mgh, Msb.) b2: حَظٌّ خَسِيسٌ, and ↓ مَخْسُوسٌ, (tropical:) A low, or mean, fortune, that is not held in any estimation. (A.) b3: هُوَ لَا يَدْخُلُ فِى

أَخَسُّ [More, and most, خَسِيس, i. e., low or ignoble, &c.]. You say, مَا رَأَيْتُ أَخَسَّ مِنْهُ [I have not seen any more low or ignoble, or, more commonly, contemptible, than he, or it].
