(قَطَلَ) الْقَافُ وَالطَّاءُ وَاللَّامُ أَصْلٌ صَحِيحٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى قَطْعِ الشَّيْءِ. يُقَالُ: قَطَلَهُ قَطْلًا، وَهُوَ قَطِيلٌ وَمَقْطُولٌ. وَنَخْلَةٌ قَطِيلٌ، إِذَا قُطِعَتْ مِنْ أَصْلِهَا فَسَقَطَتْ. وَيُقَالُ: إِنَّ الْقَطِيلَةَ: الْقِطْعَةُ مِنَ الْكِسَاءِ وَالثَّوْبِ يُنْشَفُ بِهَا الْمَاءُ. وَالْمِقْطَلَةُ: حَدِيدَةٌ يُقْطَعُ بِهَا، وَالْجَمْعُ مَقَاطِلُ، وَيُقَالُ إِنَّ أَبَا ذُؤَيْبٍ الْهُذَلِيَّ كَانَ يُلَقَّبُ " الْقَطِيلَ ".
