الْعود وَغَيره ذيا وذويا ذبل ويبس وَضعف وَيُقَال ذوى عود فلَان شاخ فَهُوَ ذاو وَهِي ذواية
الْعود وَغَيره ذيا وذويا ذبل ويبس وَضعف وَيُقَال ذوى عود فلَان شاخ فَهُوَ ذاو وَهِي ذواية
ذ و ى: (ذَوَى) الْبَقْلُ يَذْوِي بِالْكَسْرِ (ذُوِيًّا) مَضْمُومٌ مُشَدَّدٌ فَهُوَ (ذَاوٍ) أَيْ ذَبَلَ. قَالَ ابْنُ السِّكِّيتِ: وَلَا يُقَالُ ذَوِي بِكَسْرِ الْوَاوِ. وَقَالَ يُونُسُ: (ذَوِيَ) بِكَسْرِ الْوَاوِ لُغَةٌ وَ (أَذْوَاهُ) الْحَرُّ أَذْبَلَهُ.
ذوى وَقَالَ [أَبُو عبيد -] : فِي حَدِيث عُمَر [رَضِيَ الله عَنْهُ -] أَنه كَانَ يَسْتَاكُ وَهُوَ صَائِم وَلكنه كَانَ يَستَاكُ بِعُودٍ قِدْ ذَوَى. قَوْله: [قد -] ذوَى يَعْنِي يَبِسَ وَفِيه لُغَتَانِ: ذَوَى يَذْوِي وَبَعْضهمْ يَقُول: ذَوِي يَذْوَى. وَالْأول أَجود وَهُوَ عود ذاوٍ قَالَ ذُو الرمة:

كأَنَّما نفض الأحمالَ ذاويةً ... على جوانبه الفِرصادُ والعِنبُ ... وَفِي هَذَا الحَدِيث من الْفِقْه الرُّخْصَة فِي الصَّائِم يستاك وَلم يذكر فِيهِ أول النَّهَار وَلَا آخِره.
