(ضَيَلَ) الضَّادُ وَالْيَاءُ وَاللَّامُ أَصْلٌ وَاحِدٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى نَبَاتٍ مَعْرُوفٍ. مِنْ ذَلِكَ الضَّالُّ: السِّدْرُ الْبَرِّيُّ. الْوَاحِدَةُ ضَالَّةٌ. قَالَ الْفَرَّاءُ: أَضَالَتِ الْأَرْضُ، وَأَضْيَلَتْ، إِذَا صَارَ فِيهَا الضَّالُّ. وَيُقَالُ: إِنَّ الضَّالَةَ: بُرَةُ النَّاقَةِ. قَالَ ابْنُ مَيَّادَةَ:

قَطَعْتُ بِمِصْلَالِ الْخِشَاشِ يَرُدُّهَا ... عَلَى الْكَرْهِ مِنْهَا ضَالَةٌ وَجَدِيلُ
