شَحْط
من (ش ح ط) السبق في الجري وغيره، والبعد، وعود يفرع عليه الأعصان الرطاب ونحوها حتى لا تتدلى إلى الأرض، وفي اللهجة المصرية تستخدم بمعنى الطويل البالغ.

(شَحَطَ) الشِّينُ وَالْحَاءُ وَالطَّاءُ أَصْلَانِ: أَحَدُهُمَا الْبُعْدُ، وَالْآخَرُ اخْتِلَاطٌ فِي شَيْءٍ وَاضْطِرَابٌ.

فَالْأَوَّلُ: قَوْلُهُمْ شَحَطَتِ الدَّارُ تَشْحَطُ شَحْطًا وَشُحُوطًا، وَهِيَ شَاحِطَةٌ.

وَأَمَّا الْأَصْلُ الْآخَرُ فَالشَّحْطُ، وَهُوَ الِاضْطِرَابُ فِي الدَّمِ. وَيُقَالُ لِلْوَلَدِ إِذَا اضْطَرَبَ فِي السَّلَى: هُوَ يَتَشَحَّطُ فِي دَمِهِ. وَمِنْهُ اللَّبَنُ الْمَشْحُوطُ، وَهُوَ الَّذِي يُصَبُّ عَلَيْهِ الْمَاءُ. وَمِنَ الْبَابِ: الشَّحْطَةُ: دَاءٌ يَأْخُذُ الْإِبِلَ لَا تَكَادُ أَنْ تَنْجُوَ مِنْهُ. وَمِنَ الْبَابِ الْمِشْحَطُ: عُوَيْدٌ يُوضَعُ عِنْدَ قَضِيبِ الْكَرْمِ يَقِيهِ الْأَرْضَ. وَقَالَ قَوْمٌ: إِنَّ الشَّحْطَ ذَرْقُ الطَّيْرِ. وَأَنْشَدُوا:

وَمُلْبِدٍ بَيْنَ مَوْمَاةٍ بِمَهْلَكَةٍ ... جَاوَزْتُهُ بِعَلَاةِ الْخَلْقِ عِلْيَانِ

كَأَنَّمَا الشَّحْطُ فِي أَعْلَى حَمَائِرِهِ ... سَبَائِبُ الرَّيْطِ مِنْ قَزٍّ وَكَتَّانِ

فَإِنْ صَحَّ هَذَا فَهُوَ أَيْضًا مِنَ الِاخْتِلَاطِ.
