حنب: مِحْنَب. ويجمع على مَحَانِب: شرك، فخ، مصيدة، وَهضق (فوك).
مِحْناب: مِحْنب (المعجم اللاتيني العربي) وفيه ( laques,pedaca) غير أن الصواب ( pedica) .

(حَنَبَ) الْحَاءُ وَالنُّونُ وَالْبَاءُ أَصْلٌ وَاحِدٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى الَّذِي دَلَّ عَلَيْهِ مَا قَبْلَهُ، وَهُوَ الِاعْوِجَاجُ فِي الشَّيْءِ. فَالْمُحَنَّبُ: الْفَرَسُ الْبَعِيدُ مَا بَيْنَ الرِّجْلَيْنِ مِنْ غَيْرِ فَحَجٍ ; وَذَلِكَ مَدْحٌ. وَيُقَالُ إِنَّ الْحَنَبَ اعْوِجَاجٌ فِي السَّاقَيْنِ. قَالَ الْخَلِيلُ فِي تَحْنِيبِ الْخَيْلِ إِنَّهُ إِنَّمَا يُوصَفُ بِالشِّدَّةِ، وَلَيْسَ فِي ذَلِكَ اعْوِجَاجٌ. وَهَذَا خِلَافُ مَا قَالَهُ أَهْلُ اللُّغَةِ.
