الخيف: بالتحريك، أن تكون إحدى عيني الفرس زرقاء والأخرى كحلاء. وبالسكون ما ارتفع من الوادي قليلا عن مسيل الماء، ومنه مسجد الخيف بمنى لأنه بني في خيف الجبل، والأصل مسجد خيف منى فتخفف بالحذف.
