1 لَقِفَهُ He seized it, or took it quickly; (S, M, K;) namely, a thing thrown to him with the hand, or said to him. (M, TA.) See also last sentence of 1 in art. حنك.5 تَلَقَّفَهُ مِنْ فَمِهِ He caught it and retained it quickly, [i. e., what he said,] from his mouth. (TA.)

- فِي حَدِيثِ الْحَجِّ «تَلَقَّفْتُ التَّلبِية مِن فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ» أَيْ تَلَقَّنْتها وحفِظْتُها بسُرعة.
[هـ] وَفِي حَدِيثِ الحَجّاج «قَالَ لِامْرَأَةٍ: إنكِ لَقُوفٌ صَيُود» اللَّقوف : الَّتِي إِذَا مَسَّها الرجُل لَقِفَت يدَه سَرِيعًا: أَيْ أخَذَتْها.

لَقْفٌ:
ضبطه الحازمي بفتح أوله، وسكون ثانيه، وقال عرّام: لقف ماء آبار كثيرة عذب ليس عليها مزارع ولا نخل فيها لغلظ موضعها وخشونته، وهو بأعلى قوران واد من ناحية السوارقية على فرسخ، وفي لقف ولفت وقع الخلاف في حديث الهجرة وكلاهما صحيح هذا موضع وذاك آخر.
