قثأ: القِثَّاءُ والقُثَّاءُ، بكسر القاف وضمها، معروف، مدّتها همزة.

وأَرض مَقثأَةٌ ومَقْثُؤَةٌ: كثيرة القِثَّاءِ. والمَقْثَأَةُ والمَقْثُؤَة: موضع القِثّاءِ. وقد أَقْثَأَتِ الأَرضُ إِذا كانت كثيرة القثّاءِ.

وأَقْثَأَ القومُ: كَثُر عندهم القثّاءُ.

وفي الصحاح: القِثّاءُ: الخِيار، الواحدة قِثّاءة.
