[شوس] الشَوَسُ بالتحريك: النظرُ بمؤَخر العين تَكَبُّراً أو تَغَيُّظاً. والرجلُ أَشْوَسُ من قوم شوسٍ. قال أبو عمرو: ويقال تَشاوسَ إليه، وهو أن ينظر إليه بمؤخر عينه ويميل وجهه في شق العين التى ينظر بها.

(شَوَسَ)
فِي حَدِيثِ الَّذِي بَعَثَهُ إِلَى الْجِنِّ «فَقَالَ: يَا نبيَّ اللَّهِ أسُفْعٌ شُوسٌ؟» الشُّوسُ:
الطّوال، جمع أَشْوَسَ. كذا قال الخطابي. (س) وَفِي حَدِيثِ التَّيْمِىّ «رُبَّما رَأَيْتُ أَبَا عُثْمَانَ النهدِىَّ يَتَشَاوَسُ، يَنْظرُ أزالَتِ الشمسُ أَمْ لَا» التَّشَاوُسُ: أَنْ يَقْلب رأسَه ينظرُ إِلَى السماءِ بإحْدَى عَينَيهِ. والشَّوَسُ: النَّظَرُ بِأَحَدِ شِقَّيَ العينِ. وَقِيلَ هُوَ الَّذِي يُصَغِّر عَيْنَيْهِ وَيَضُمُّ أجْفاَنه لينْظَر.

(شَوُسَ) الشِّينُ وَالْوَاوُ وَالسِّينُ أَصْلٌ وَاحِدٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى نَظَرٍ بِتَغَيُّظٍ. مِنْ ذَلِكَ الشَّوَسِ: النَّظَرُ بِأَحَدِ شِقَّيِ الْعَيْنِ تَغَيُّظًا. وَرَجُلٌ أَشْوَسُ مِنْ قَوْمٍ شُوسٍ. وَيُقَالُ هُوَ [الَّذِي] يُصَغِّرُ عَيْنَيْهِ وَيَضُمُّ أَجْفَانَهُ.
