بالشين المفتوحة، والجيم، وراء ساكنة، ودال مهملة: من قرى ما وراء النهر، قال الإصطخري:
إذا جزت الختّل والوخش إلى نواحي واشجرد والقواديان على جيحون. وواشجرد: مدينة نحو الترمذ وشومان أصغر منها، ويرتفع من واشجرد وشومان إلى قرب الصغانيان زعفران كثير يحمل إلى سائر الآفاق.
