(نَحَسَ) النُّونُ وَالْحَاءُ وَالسِّينُ أَصْلٌ وَاحِدٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى خِلَافِ السَّعْدِ. وَنُحِسَ هُوَ فَهُوَ مَنْحُوسٌ. وَالنُّحَاسُ: الدُّخَانُ لَا لَهَبَ فِيهِ. قَالَ:

شَيَاطِينُ يُرْمَى بِالنُّحَاسِ رَجِيمُهَا

وَالنُّحَاسُ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْجَوَاهِرِ كَأَنَّهُ لَمَّا خَالَفَ الْجَوَاهِرَ الشَّرِيفَةَ كَالذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ سُمِّيَ نُحَاسًا. هَذَا عَلَى وَجْهِ الِاحْتِمَالِ. وَيُقَالُ: يَوْمٌ نَحْسٌ وَيَوْمٌ نَحِسٌ. وَقُرِئَ: {فِي أَيَّامٍ نَحِسَاتٍ} [فصلت: 16] وَنَحْسَاتٍ.

وَيُحْتَمَلُ أَنَّ النُّحَاسَ: الْأَصْلُ، عَلَى مَا ذَكَرَهُ بَعْضُهُمْ، وَلَمَّا كَانَ أَصْلًا لِكَثِيرٍ مِنَ الْجَوَاهِرِ قِيلَ لِمَبْلَغِ أَصْلِ الشَّيْءِ نُحَاسٌ.
