قال الأصمعي: الكدادة ما بقي في أسفل القدر، وقال غيره: إذا لصق الطبيخ في أسفل البرمة فكدّ بالأصابع فهو الكدادة: وهو موضع بالمروت لبني يربوع، وقال الفرزدق يهجو جريرا:
لئن عبت نار ابن المراغة إنها ... لألأم نار المصطلين وموقدا
إذا ثقّبوها بالكدادة لم تضيء ... رئيسا ولا عند المشحّين مرفدا
