قطو



قَطًا Sand-grouse; pterocles melanogaster: so Wilkinson, Ancient Egyptians i. 250: see De Sacy's Chrest. Ar., 2nd ed., pp. 369, et seqq.

قَطْوَةٌ

: see دَالِيَةٌ.

قَطَاةٌ

, of a beast, The croup, or rump, and what is between the hips, or haunches: (K:) or [the fore part of the croup; i. e.] the place where the رِدْف sits. (S, K.) See الغُرَابَانِ. b2: أَدَلُّ مِنْ قَطَاةٍ: see تُبَّعٌ.

(قَطَوَ) الْقَافُ وَالطَّاءُ وَالْحَرْفُ الْمُعْتَلُّ أَصْلٌ صَحِيحٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى مُقَارَبَةٍ فِي الْمَشْيِ. يُقَالُ: الْقَطْوُ: مُقَارَبَةُ الْخَطْوِ، وَبِهِ سُمِّيَتِ الْقَطَاةُ، وَجَمْعُهَا قَطًا.

وَالْعَرَبُ تَقُولُ: " لَيْسَ قَطًا مِثْلَ قُطَيٍّ "، أَيْ لَيْسَ الْأَكَابِرُ مِثْلَ الْأَصَاغِرِ. قَالَ:

لَيْسَ قَطًا مِثْلَ قُطَيٍّ وَلَا الْ ... مَرْعِيُّ فِي الْأَقْوَامِ كَالرَّاعِي وَسُمِّيَتْ قَطَاةً لِأَنَّهَا تَقْطُو فِي الْمِشْيَةِ. وَيَقُولُونَ: اقْطَوْطَى الرَّجُلُ فِي مِشْيَتِهِ; اسْتَدَارَ. وَمِمَّا اسْتُعِيرَ مِنْ هَذَا الْبَابِ الْقَطَاةُ: مَقْعَدُ الرَّدِيفِ مِنْ ظَهْرِ الْفَرَسِ.
