قسطل: القَسْطل: الغبار، والقَسْطلان أيضاً، إذا سطع سطوعاً شديداً. والقَسْطلانيُّ: قطف منسوبة إلى عامل أو بلد. الواحدة: قَسْطلانيَة، قال: 

كأن عليه القَسْطلانيّ مخملاً ... [إذا ما اتقت شفانه بالمناكب]

والقِسْطالُ: الجهبذ.

(هـ) فِي خَبَرِ وَقْعَةِ نَهاوَنْد «لَمَّا الْتَقى الْمُسْلِمُونَ والفُرس غَشِيَتْهُم ريحٌ قَسْطَلَانِيَّة» أَيْ كَثِيرَةُ الغُبَار، وَهِيَ مَنْسُوبَةٌ إِلَى القَسْطَل: الغُبار، بِزِيَادَةِ الْأَلِفِ وَالنُّونِ لِلْمُبَالَغَةِ.
