شيخ به قحاب. وفرس وكلب به قحابٌ وهو السعال، وقد قحب يقحب. وتقول: من القحاب، أخذ اسم القحاب. ويسمّى أهل اليمن المرأة: القحبة، ويقولون: لا تثق بقول القحبة، ولا تغترر بطول الصحبة. وقاحبت المرأة وقحبت وتقحبت.
