(غَيَثَ) الْغَيْنُ وَالْيَاءُ وَالثَّاءُ أَصْلٌ صَحِيحٌ، وَهُوَ الْحَيَا النَّازِلُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ. يُقَالُ: جَادَنَا غَيْثٌ، وَهَذِهِ أَرْضٌ مَغِيثَةٌ وَمَغْيُوثَةٌ. وَغِثْنَا، أَيْ أَصَابَنَا الْغَيْثُ، قَالَ ذُو الرُّمَّةِ: " مَا رَأَيْتُ أَفْصَحَ مِنْ أَمَةِ آلِ فُلَانٍ، قُلْتُ لَهَا: كَيْفَ كَانَ الْمَطَرُ عِنْدَكُمْ؟ قَالَتْ: غِثْنَا مَا شِينَا ".
