العِيْصُ: الشَّخْصُ. والشَّجَرُ المُلْتَفُّ. ومَنْبِتُ خِيَارِ الشَّجَر، ويُقال مَعِيصٌ أيضاً. وأصْلُ الشَّيْءِ؛ ويُجْمَعُ على العِيْصَانِ. وأعْيَاصُ قُرَيْشٍ: كرامُهُم يَتَنَاسَبُوْنَ إلى عِيْصٍ أبٍ لهم.
ومَعِيْصٌ: اسْمُ رَجُلٍ.
