شمس: الشَّمْسُ: عَيْنُ الصُّبْحِ. ويَوْمٌ شامِسٌ يَشْمُسُ شُمُوْساً: أي ذُو وَضَحٍ نَهَارُه كُلُّه. والشُّمُوْسُ: مَعَالِيْقُ القَلائِدِ. وشُمِسْنا وشَمَسْنا: آذَانا حَرُّ الشَمْسِ. وشَمِسَ يَوْمُنا يَشْمَسُ، وشَمَسَ، وأشْمَسَ بالألف. وأشْمَسَ الرَّجُلُ: دَخَلَ في حَرِّها. ورَجُلٌ شَمُوْسٌ: عَسِرٌ، وإنَّه لَذُو شِمَاسٍ. وشَمَسَ لي: إذا أبْدى لك العَدَاوَةَ. والشَّمِسُ والشَّمُوْسُ من الناسِ والدَّوَابِّ: الذي إذا نُجِسَ لم يَسْتَقِرّ. وشَمّاسٌ: بَعْضُ رُؤوسِ النَّصارى، والجَميعُ السَّمَامِسَةُ. والشَّمْسَانِ: مُوَيْهَتَانِ في جَوْفٍ عَرِيْضٍ في أيدي عمرو بن كِلاَبٍ.
