سمج
سَمُجَ, [aor. ـُ inf. n. سَمَاجَةٌ (S, O, Msb, K) and سُمُوجَةٌ; (L, TA;) and سَمِجَ, [aor. ـَ (Lh, TA, and so in a copy of the A,) inf. n. سَمَاجَةٌ; (A;) It (a thing, S, O, Msb) was, or became, foul, unseemly, or ugly; (S, A, O, Msb, * K;) or devoid of beauty. (A, L, Msb.) 2 سمّجهُ, (A, O, L, Msb, K,) inf. n. تَسْمِيجٌ, (O, K,) He, or it, rendered it foul, unseemly, or ugly; (O, Msb, * K;) or devoid of beauty. (L, Msb.) One says, مَا سَمَّجَهُ عِنْدِى إِلَّا كَذَا [Nothing rendered it foul, unseemly, &c., in my estimation, but such a thing]. (A.) 4 مَا أَسْمَجَ فِعْلَهُ [How foul, or unseemly, is his deed!]. (A.) 10 استسمجهُ He reckoned it, or esteemed it, foul, unseemly, or ugly; (S, O;) or devoid of beauty. (L.) One says, أَنَا أَسْتَسْمِجُ فِعْلَكَ [I reckon, or esteem, thy deed foul, or unseemly]. (A, TA.) سَمْجٌ, (S, O, K,) like ضَخْمٌ from ضَخُمَ, (S, O,) and ↓ سَمِجٌ, (S, A, O, Msb, K,) like خَشِنٌ (S, A, O, Msb) from خَشُنَ, (S, O,) and ↓ سَمِيجٌ, (S, A, O, K,) like قَبِيحٌ (S, A, O) from قَبُحَ, (S, O,) Foul, unseemly, or ugly; (S, A, O, Msb, * K;) or devoid of beauty: (A, L, Msb:) pl. سِمَاجٌ, (S, O, K,) [of سَمْجٌ,] like ضِخَامٌ [pl. of ضَخْمٌ, or of سَمِيجٌ, like قِبَاحٌ pl. of قَبِيحٌ], applied to a number of men, (S, O,) and, so applied, سَمَاجَى, [of سَمِجٌ, like حَذَارَى pl. of حَذِرٌ, or of سَمِيجٌ, like قَبَاحَى
pl. of قَبِيحٌ,] (IF, O, L,) and سُمَجَآءُ, [of سَمِيجٌ,] and سَمِجُونَ: (L:) ↓ سَمِيجٌ is of the dial. of Hudheyl; and is said by some to signify possessing no good, or no good things. (L.) One says also سَمْجٌ لَمْجٌ and لَمِجٌ ↓ سَمِجٌ and لَمِيجٌ ↓ سَمِيجٌ, using the latter word in each case as an imitative sequent [for the purpose of corroboration]. (AO, S and K in art. لمج, q. v.) b2: سَمْجٌ applied to milk signifies Greasy, and bad, or foul, in flavour; as also ↓ سَمِيجٌ; (S, O, K;) and so سَمْهَجٌ and سَمْلَجٌ: (S:) or having no flavour; (L;) or so ↓ سَمِجٌ: (Msb:) and bad, or foul, in odour.
