[رهب] رَهِبَ، بالكسر، يَرْهَبُ رَهْبَةً ورُهْباً بالضم، ورَهَباً بالتحريك، أي خاف. ورجُل رَهَبوتٌ. يقال: " رَهَبوتٌ خيرٌ من رَحَموتٍ " أي لأنْ تُرْهَبَ خيرٌ من أن تُرْحَمَ. وتقول: أَرْهَبَهُ واسترهبه، إذا أخافَه. والراهب: واحد رُهبان النصارى، ومصدره الرَهْبَةُ والرَهْبانِيَّةُ. والتَرَهُّبُ: التَعَبُّدُ. قال الأصمعي: الرَهَبُ: الناقة المهزولة. والرَهْبُ أيضاً: النَصْلُ الرقيق من نصال السهامِ، والجمع رِهابٌ. قال الشاعر : إنِّي سَيَنْهَى عَنِّي وَعِيدَهُمُ * بيضٌ رهاب ومجنأ أجد والرهابة، على وزن السحابة: عظم في الصدر مُشرف على البطن، مثل اللسان.
