[تور] التَوْرُ: إناءٌ يشرب فيه. والتَوْرُ: الرسولُ بين القوم. قال ابن دريد: وهو عربيّ صحيح. وأنشد: والتّوْرُ فيما بَيْنَنا مُعْمَلُ * يرضى به المأتى والمرسل - أبو عمرو: فلان يُتارُ على أن يُؤْخَذَ، أي يدار على أن يؤخذ. وأنشد للمحاربي : لقد غضبوا على وأشقذونى * فصرت كأننى فرأ يتار - ويروى: " متار " مقلوب من متأر.
