(بَغَثَ) الْبَاءُ وَالْغَيْنُ وَالثَّاءُ أَصْلٌ وَاحِدٌ، يَدُلُّ عَلَى ذُلِّ الشَّيْءِ وَضَعْفِهِ. مِنْ ذَلِكَ بَُِغَاثُ الطَّيْرِ، وَهِيَ الَّتِي لَا تَصِيدُ وَلَا تَمْتَنِعُ. ثُمَّ يُقَالُ لِأَخْلَاطِ النَّاسِ وَخُشَارَتِهِمُ الْبَغْثَاءُ. وَالْأَبْغَثُ: مَكَانٌ ذُو رَمْلٍ. وَهُوَ مِنْ ذَاكَ لِأَنَّهُ لَيِّنٌ غَيْرُ صُلْبٍ.
