الغَلَس: هي الظلمة في أول وقت الفجر وضدُّه الإسفار، والتغليس الخروجُ بغلسٍ أي في ظلمة آخر الليل.

الغَلَسُ، محركةً: ظُلْمَةُ آخِرِ الليلِ.
وأغْلَسوا: دَخَلوا فيها.
وغَلَّسوا: سارُوا، ووَرَدُوا بِغَلَسٍ. وكأميرٍ: من أعْلامِ الحُمُرِ.
ووَقَعَ في وادِي تُغُلِّسَ، غيرَ مَصْروفٍ، كتُخُيِّبَ، وتُهُلِّكَ: في داهِيَةٍ مُنْكَرَةٍ. والأصلُ فيه أن الغاراتِ كانتْ تَقَعُ بُكْرَةً بِغَلَسٍ. وجُبارَةُ بنُ المُغَلِّس، كمحدِّثٍ: كوفيٌّ محدِّثٌ.
