العَقابِيلُ: بَقايا العِلَّةِ والعَدَاوَةِ والعِشْقِ، وما يَخْرُجُ على الشَّفَةِ غِبَّ الحُمَّى، والشدائدُ، واحدةُ الكلِّ:
عُقْبولَةٌ وعُقْبولٌ، بضمهما.
وتَعَقْبَلَه: تَعَقَّبَه.
وهو عُقَبِلَةُ فلانٍ، كعُلَبِطَةٍ، أي: يَتَعَقَّبُهُ.
وهو ذو عَقَابِيلَ، أي: شِرِّيرٌ.
