السَّماع: في الاصطلاح: خلافُ القياس وهو الذي تَسْمَعه من العرب وتستعمله، ولكن لا تقيس غيره عليه. وأيضاً السماع كل ما التذَّ به الأذنُ من صوت حَسَنٍ ويقال: "باتوا في لهو وسماع". وفي "در المعارف": سماع أوازي را كَويند كه بي آلات (مزامير ومعازف) باشد وغنا مع آلات ست بس اختلاف هيج يكي از علماء بحرمت غنا نيست".
Volunteers needed (having reasonably advanced knowledge of Arabic, and relatively good English): There are 20-40 dictionaries that can be added to The Arabic Lexicon once the digital versions are reviewed and any necessary corrections carried out (sometimes this can be done in a few hours).
