رجل أَعجمي، لا ينصرف. وفي التنزيل العزيز: وقَتَل داودُ جالوتَ.

ويقال: جَلَتُّه عشرينَ سَوْطاً أَي ضَرَبْته؛ وأَصله جَلَدْتُه،

فأُدْغِمَت الدال في التاء.
