هَوَج: خفّة، طيش، نزق، تهوّر (فخري 8:272 (أنظر 3:1) (المقدمة 1:342:1)).
هوج: سذاجة، بساطة (بقطر).

(هـ وَج)

الهَوَجُ كالهَوَكِ، هَوِجَ هَوَجا فَهُوَ أهْوَجُ، وَالْأُنْثَى هَوْجاء.

وأهْوَجَهُ: وجده أهْوَجَ.

والأهْوَجُ: الشجاع الَّذِي يَرْمِي بِنَفسِهِ فِي الْحَرْب، على التَّشْبِيه بذلك.

والأهَوَجُ: المفرط الطول مَعَ هَوَجٍ.

والهَوْجاء من الْإِبِل: الَّتِي كَأَن بهَا هَوَجا من سرعتها، وَكَذَلِكَ بعير أهْوَجُ، قَالَ أَبُو الْأسود:

عَلى ذاتِ لَوْثٍ أوْ بأَهْوَجَ شَوْشَوٍ ... صَنيعٍ نَبيلٍ يَمْلأُ الرَّحْلَ كاهِلُه وريح هَوْجاء: متداركه الهبوب، كَأَن بهَا هَوَجاً، وَقيل: هِيَ الَّتِي تحمل المور، وتجر الذيل، قَالَ ابْن الْأَعرَابِي: هِيَ الشَّدِيدَة الهبوب من جَمِيع الرِّيَاح قَالَ ابْن أَحْمَر:

وَلِهَتْ علَيها كلُّ مُعْصِفَةٍ ... هَوْجاءَ لَيسَ لِلُبِّها زَبْرُ

أنْشدهُ سِيبَوَيْهٍ بِرَفْع " هوجاء " على انه وصف لكل، وأنث الشَّاعِر الْوَصْف حملا على الْمَعْنى، إِذْ الْكل، هُنَا ريح، وَالرِّيح أُنْثَى، وَنَظِيره قَوْله تَعَالَى: (كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذائِقَةُ المَوْتِ) .

وضربة هَوْجاءُ: هجمت على الْجوف.

(هَوَجَ) الْهَاءُ وَالْوَاوُ وَالْجِيمُ: كَلِمَةٌ تَدُلُّ عَلَى تَسَرُّعٍ وَتَعَسُّفٍ. يَقُولُونَ: الْأَهْوَجُ: الرَّجُلُ الْمُتَسَرِّعُ. وَالْهَوْجَاءُ: النَّاقَةُ السَّرِيعَةُ، كَأَنَّ بِهَا هَوَجًا. وَالْهَوْجَاءُ: الرِّيحُ الَّتِي تَقْلَعُ الْبُيُوتَ. وَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: وَقَدْ تَهُبُّ فِي وَجْهٍ وَاحِدٍ هُبُوبًا مُتَدَارِكًا. وَيَقُولُونَ: الْهَاجَةُ: الضِّفْدِعَةُ.
