مسد: نسيج حلفاء، سعادى، بردى وعند (فوك) ( spartum) وباللاتينية: carex.

(مَسَدَ) الْمِيمُ وَالسِّينُ وَالدَّالُ أَصْلٌ صَحِيحٌ يَدُلُّ عَلَى جَدْلِ شَيْءٍ وَطَيِّهِ. فَالْمَسَدُ: لِيفٌ يُتَّخَذُ مِنْ جَرِيدِ النَّخْلِ. وَالْمَسَدُ: حَبْلٌ يُتَّخَذُ مِنْ أَوْبَارِ الْإِبِلِ. قَالَ:

وَمَسَدٍ أُمِرَّ مِنْ أَيَانِقِ

وَامْرَأَةٌ مَمْسُودَةٌ: مَجْدُولَةُ الْخَلْقِ، كَالْحَبْلِ الْمَمْسُودِ، غَيْرِ مُسْتَرْخِيَةٍ. وَعِبَارَةُ بَعْضِهِمْ فِي أَصْلِهِ أَنَّهُ الْفَتْلُ. وَالْمَسَدُ: اللِّيفُ، لِأَنَّ مِنْ شَأْنِهِ أَنْ يُفْتَلَ لِلْحَبْلِ.
