(غ م س) : (غَمَسَهُ) فِي الْمَاءِ غَطَّهُ فِيهِ وَأَدْخَلَهُ فَانْغَمَسَ فِيهِ بِنَفْسِهِ وَاغْتَمَسَ (وَفِي) الْحَدِيث «الْيَمِينُ الْغَمُوسُ تَدَعُ الدِّيَارَ بَلَاقِعَ» وَيُرْوَى الْفَاجِرَةُ أَيْ الْكَاذِبَة وَسُمِّيَتْ غَمُوسًا لِأَنَّهَا تَغْمِسُ صَاحِبَهَا فِي الْإِثْمِ ثُمَّ فِي النَّارِ (وَالْبَلْقَعُ) الْمَكَانُ الْخَالِي وَالْمَعْنَى أَنَّهُ بِسَبَبِ شُؤْمِهَا تُهْلِكُ الْأَمْوَالَ وَأَصْحَابهَا فَتَبْقَى الدِّيَارُ بَلَاقِعَ فَكَأَنَّهَا هِيَ الَّتِي صَيَّرَتْهَا كَذَلِكَ وَفِي بَعْضِ النُّسَخِ يَمِينُ الْغَمُوس أَوْ يَمِينُ الْفَاجِرَةِ وَهُوَ خَطَأٌ لُغَةً وَسَمَاعًا وَلَا يَغْتَمِس فِي (رم) .
